Fixed Most of the clunking when turning at low speeds. Easy to put in and twice as heave as the stock steering shaft. Great price compared to dealership.

This fixed the clunking steering column in our 07 2500 Suburban. Took about 10 minutes to install, great quality and fit.

After 2 months of use, the new Dorman shaft is starting to click/pop. Had same problem on my Silverado. It was replaced under warranty and I never had another problem with it. I should have bought a GM shaft this time.

Had the infamous clunk for a while, didn't bother me at first. However, it became bothersome and did some research which pointed to the common issue of a failed intermediate shaft. I was in between the factory item vs the Dorman. I made my decision for Dorman based on these AutoPartsWAY reviews and also price. I am a prime member, so shipping for this item was free. The cheapest place for factory part was gmpartsdirect.com but was $57 PLUS shipping. It was here in 2 days as always (just pay the money and be a prime member, its worth it!). I am a review purchaser- my purchasing decision is based on reviews. I read all the reviews for this item. I followed the tips and tricks mentioned by others. Here is how install went for me.It always takes me more time than what everyone says. I spent plenty of time researching the install as well. this link was useful[...]I still don't see how it only took 30 minutes for first installs for some of these people but I...

Yes, the new intermediate steering shaft sat around for 9 months until I got around to putting it in... but what a difference! I had the classic GM steering wheel *clunk* in my 2003 Sierra. GMC had done something about it once at about 30,000 miles, but it came back before too long and now that my truck has 111,000 miles on it I felt compelled to try this replacement. Installation was pretty easy. The nuts holding the gas pedal bracket and the bracket itself must be removed to get the old shaft out, but that's a quick process. To ease installation, I did grind a small chamfer on the end of the shaft that goes into the engine compartment. I don't believe that the lower steering shaft female receptacle was deformed, the Dorman shaft is just a really tight fit. I also had to grab the shaft with a pair of locking pliers and tap the shaft into position with a hammer. Does this mean that the part didn't fit properly? I don't think so... I'm thrilled that it fit snugly. I'm...

I replaced my clunking 2003 Avalanche intermediate shaft with this part today. The GM greasing solution does not work. You only need a 15mm box end wrench to replace this part. Duct tape your steering wheel to the shift lever so it doesn't rotate when the shaft is removed. There is a captive nut on one side of the shaft, remove from the bolt side. One bolt is inside the truck, one outside. Unplug the blue plug that is in the way on the bottom of the dash. Remove the shaft toward the inside of the truck with a bit of maneuvering. You may need a towel to wipe up the extra grease from the dealers attempt to quiet this noise :-0 Install in the reverse order. No more clunking. Honestly takes 30-40 minutes from the time you pop the hood.
