This thing is heavy. Almost as heavy as my old roller. Very thick material. Some people mentioned a ridge on the inside. Mine did not have that. It's a smooth radius almost as big as a roller fairlead. I got this for wire rope. The inside of the opening is not as smooth as machined aluminum because this fairlead is cast and it has small dimpling from the production process. It has a good thick powder coat that smooths it out. The little plastic plugs that come with it to cover the bolt holes do not fit at all. I would recommend for wire rope. I don't run synthetic, so I can't say how well it would work for that application.

I'm confused. There's a casting parting line right at the back of the winch on the inside. I'm going to grind it off and run it. It's annoying, though, since I'll lose the protective coating of the fairlead in that area. But no one in their right mind would put a rope through this, wire or synthetic. Why can't we buy reasonably priced steel hawse fairleads with no quality issues?Strange.Edit: I am returning this to AutoPartsWAY, because I decided the quality of this fairlead is unacceptable. I will be replacing it with a roller fairlead.

Bought this fairlead to replace the huge roller fairlead on my Jeep. The rollers were damaged in a front end collision, but they stuck out wayyyyy too far for my liking anyway. I bought this steel fairlead because I still have steel cable on my winch and didn't think an aluminum hawse fairlead would hold up (I've since read otherwise).Don't even bother reading the 1 or 2 star reviews, they are all using synthetic rope and this fairlead is entirely too rough for it. I'm not sure why Warn says you can use synthetic with this.*****If you don't have steel cable, go buy a machined/polished hawse fairlead instead of this one*****
